The 1920s and 30s were considered the Golden age of detective fiction with the genre flourishinh healthy on both sides of the atlantic. England boasted an impressive list that included writers like Agatha Christie , Freeman wills Croft, Margery Allingham , antony Berkely who also wrote under the nameof Micheal Innes, R,Austin Freeman ,Philip MacDonald.America was represented by john Dickson Carr,Frederic Dannay and Manfred BLee and S S Van Dine .Other like Raymond Chandler and dashiell. Hammett adopted a more hard – boiled American style.
